Is coral calcium a good calcium supplement ?

Coral calcium is receiving a lot of attention in the media lately and claims to cure most anything.  Some companies claim that coral calcium is absorbed better than other forms of calcium.  In actuality, coral calcium is handled by the body in the same way that any other calcium supplement is handled.  There's no conclusive scientific evidence that coral calcium is better than synthetic calcium.

If you are allergic to shellfish, it is best to steer clear of coral calcium.  Coral calcium can trigger an allergic reaction, such as hives, breathing difficulties or swelling.

Also, it is important to know that coral reefs are protected by international law, and so the supplement is probably made of limestone, a combination of seashells and coral.
