The Community Nutrition Education Programs (CNEP) encompasses two programs:  EFNEP and ONE.

The oldest program is the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) which has been teaching families for about 35 years in Oklahoma. This program is made available via federal funds through the Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service of USDA. EFNEP  enrolls and teaches families with young children who receive any type of federal food assistance and school children, mostly 3rd and 4th graders.  Research shows that healthy eating habits developed in children can last a lifetime.

The Oklahoma Nutrition Education (ONE) Program is the nutrition education program for Oklahoma food stamp recipients and the food stamp eligible. The ONE Program is sponsored by the Food and Nutrition Service of USDA and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Food Stamp Program of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The ONE Program has been teaching and assisting families for about 9 years.

CNEP in the Pontotc Unit is located in the following counties:  Bryan, Carter, Johnston, Marshall, Murray, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Hughes, and Seminole.

To avoid the over-use of acronyms, CNEP is marketed to local families as the Fresh Start - Nutrition and You program.

County support by the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service is a key contributor to the overall success of CNEP.

CNEP Nutrition Education Assistants (NEAs) utilize gleaning to help needy families receive free produce.  Click the apple below to learn more about GLEANING.
