Peach Apple Crisp - August 2006

Serve Peach Apple Crisp as a healthy dessert or as a snack with a glass of cold, low-fat milk. Both are delicious ways to add more fruit and fiber to family meals and snacks.

Include kids in the preparation by letting them help with the bolded steps.  It’s a fun way to get kids to try new foods.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (20 ounce) peaches, in light syrup, drained, sliced
  • 2 medium apples, tart, peeled, sliced

  • 1 cup uncooked oats, quick or old fashion
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons chilled margarine

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 9x9x2 inch casserole dish.

2. Combine peaches and sliced apples in the greased casserole dish.

3. Combine oats, flour, sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Cut in margarine with two knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal.

4. Sprinkle oat mixture evenly over fruit.

5. Bake until lightly browned and bubbly, about 20 minutes.

Makes 8 - ½ cup servings
