EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT: Connie Wollenberg

Connie Wollenberg, Garvin County, SW District

 

Connie Wollenberg serves as the Family and Consumer Science and 4-H Educator in Garvin County.  She began this position in December of 2015; previous to this position she was employed as the Program Assistant at the McClain County OSU Extension office.  Connie received her Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science from East Central University.
Connie provides a wide area of programing to the community that focuses on the issues of Health and Hunger, Finance, and Co-Parenting for Resilience.   She has partnered with the Allies for Better Living, which provides an eight week summer program for youth ages 4 – 18 which focuses a variety of fun and educational activities to teach the benefits of good health and nutrition habits to area youth. Connie works with the Garvin County divorce court by teaching Co-Parenting for Resilience classes for divorcing couples to provide a positive environment for their children.  Her other areas of interest  include providing  Farm to You programing for area schools and teaching subjects in Ag in the Classroom to youth in learning where and how their food is produced.
The ‘Reality Check’ is a financial program developed for ninth grade students that provides educational training with financial life skills.  This program has evolved into three adjoining counties, consisting of Garvin, McClain, and Cleveland and 17 school districts.   She enjoys working with the 4-H program in creating food preservation and sewing construction workshops along with various 4-H contests, events, and activities.
Connie is excited to assist the OHCE members in recruitment of new memberships though activities and events which have included a Vintage Apron Show and Make’nTake workshops.  Education lessons are a wonderful opportunity to provide science and research based information to OHCE groups along with community groups.
