deliberative forums and engage their communities in discussion of
important issues through moderating, issue framing, and/or holding a
forum for their organization.
Oklahoma
Moderators and Recorders Academy
- *Formerly Public Policy Institute (PPI).
The purpose of the OMRA is to teach people to conduct deliberative forums at
the local level using NIF materials. OMRA participants will learn to:
-
Convene and
promote a local forum.
-
Moderate and
record a local forum for the purpose of coming to common ground and
identifying possible individual and public actions on an issue.
-
Organize a
local network to support public deliberation.
-
Report citizen
perspectives expressed at local deliberative forums to local, state,
and national decision makers.
-
Appreciate the
importance of deliberation in identifying the public's perspective
on public policy issues.
The OMRA is
held annually in various locations across the state. The OPPD has
found when teams of two or more people from a community or organization
attend the OMRA together, they have the best success with public deliberative forums
in their communities or organizations.
The
next OMRA is scheduled for February 8-9, 2007. The new
brochure will be online soon!
